Your first drive
What to expect on the road the first time you drive with SpectreNav, from the home screen to the first alert and what to look at afterwards.
This page walks through a first drive. It assumes you have installed the beta and, if you have one, paired your detector.
Mount the phone#
Put the phone where you can glance at it, keep it powered, and leave SpectreNav in the foreground. The app keeps alerting in the background and on CarPlay or Android Auto, but the map and signal card are only on screen while it is the active app. See CarPlay and Android Auto.
What the home screen shows#

- The map follows your position and heading. Cameras and reports are drawn on it; the Layers button (bottom left) chooses what else shows.
- The speedometer ring at the lower left shows your speed and, beside it, the posted limit. The ring is green under the limit and changes colour as you pass it.
- The "Where to?" bar at the bottom starts navigation. Its speaker button switches notification profiles and its menu button opens the Menu.
- The round plus button saves a quick report at your position.
- The status strip at the very bottom has a chip per connected thing: Detector, Laser jammer, Carputer, Web integrations and Mute zones. Tap a chip to open it.
When a signal arrives, the dark signal card drops in at the top. Home screen describes every part.
Your first alert#

- The band's tone plays and repeats faster as the signal gets stronger. Between repeats a voice says the direction, band and frequency if Radar voice alerts are on.
- The card lists every band the detector hears, with a strength bar each, and shows the strongest one large with an arrow for its direction.
- Tap a band for actions: Mute this alert, Snooze it, Lockout this spot so the same false signal stays quiet here, or Whitelist it so it always alerts here.
- Weak signals that repeat at the same place are learned as false and muted there automatically; this covers K and X band only, never Ka or laser. See Mute zones.
Every alert is saved. One that just ended, including one you only heard, is in Menu → Detection history → Last 15 minutes.
After the drive#
- Menu → Detection history shows every alert on a map and in a feed. Tap one for the encounter detail, where you can mark it as police, a camera or false. See Detection history.
- If you passed a camera the app did not know, drop a report with the plus button next time, or add it from Menu → Settings → Map & navigation → Reports & cameras → Camera editor.
Adjust before the next drive#
- Tones, voice speed and announcement distances: Menu → Settings → Alerts → Sound.
- Which alerts are spoken at all: Menu → Settings → Alerts → Notification profiles.
- Quiet at low speed, weak-signal muting and the detector's own filters: Menu → Settings → Detector → Alert filtering.
- Enforcement threats (agency activity and jurisdiction boundaries, North America only): Menu → Settings → Alerts → Enforcement threats.
