Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions new SpectreNav drivers ask most.
Getting started#
Do I need an account? No. Nothing to sign in to; everything stays on the phone. See Data & privacy.
Do I need a radar detector? No. Cameras, reports, enforcement threats and navigation work from GPS. A detector adds live radar and laser alerts.
Which detectors work? Valentine One Gen2; Uniden R4, R4W, R8, R8W, R9 and R9W; Radenso DS1 and Theia. See Supported detectors.
How do I pair? Menu → Detector → Devices → Pair a detector. Pair in the app, not in the phone's Bluetooth settings.
Where is the Menu? The menu button at the right end of the "Where to?" bar at the bottom of the map.
Alerts#
How do I change the alert sounds? Menu → Settings → Alerts → Sound → Alert tones.
Why was an alert silent? Look for a mute badge on the signal card: speed-aware muting, intelligent muting, an auto-mute rule, a mute zone or a manual mute. Check Alert filtering and the notification profile in use.
What does Lockout do? It remembers the spot and keeps that signal quiet there. Undo within a few seconds, or remove it later under Mute zones.
Can the app learn a real trap as false? Only K and X band are ever learned, after repeated detections at the same place; Ka and laser never are. Whitelist a spot to stop learning there, and review the muted signals map now and then.
Do alerts work with the phone locked? Yes, and on CarPlay and Android Auto. Allow notifications for lock-screen banners.
Cameras and reports#
Where do the cameras come from? The SpectreNav camera database, built from public map data and reports submitted from the app and reviewed by SpectreNav. It updates when the app starts.
How do I report a camera? Tap the plus button on the map. Add details with More details…, or place it precisely in Menu → Settings → Map & navigation → Reports & cameras → Camera editor.
Who sees my report? You, immediately. Everyone else once you submit it from Share for review and it has been reviewed.
Navigation#
Can it route around cameras? Yes. Choose the camera types under Menu → Settings → Map & navigation → Navigation, then compare the Camera-free and Fastest routes in the preview, each with its camera count.
Why did the map zoom by itself? Auto zoom, under Appearance. Pinch to set how far out it goes, or turn it off.
Detector settings#
Why did my Uniden go quiet after I changed a setting? It restarts for about two seconds after any settings change. Change settings while parked.
What is a detector profile? A named snapshot of detector settings and alert filtering. Automations switch profiles by place. See Detector profiles.
Data#
What is uploaded? Anonymous signal encounters, with one switch to stop it and a button to delete what was uploaded. Nothing else unless you submit a report or ask for a route.
Where is the version number? Menu → Settings → More → About.
How do I get help? support@spectrenav.com, with the version and build from About and, for a bug, diagnostic logs from Menu → Settings → Data → Diagnostics.
