CarPlay and Android Auto

What SpectreNav shows on the car screen, how alerts reach the car speakers, and what stays on the phone.

Updated October 31, 2026

SpectreNav runs on CarPlay and on Android Auto as a navigation app. The car screen gets the map, the next manoeuvre, the signal card and camera alerts; audio plays through the car.

On the car screen#

  • The map with your position, cameras and reports, in the same band colours as the phone.
  • The signal card during a radar or laser alert, with band, strength and direction, and a Mute action.
  • Camera and report alerts as they come up, with Snooze.
  • Turn-by-turn with the car's own manoeuvre display when a route is running.
  • Buttons: Search (type or Voice Search), Favorites (Home, Work, Recent), Report, mute, and while navigating Add stop and Routes.
  • Options: Auto zoom, Radar intensity for the weather overlay, Reset map zoom, and the list of notification profiles.
  • Panning: drag the map, zoom with the + and − buttons, and recenter.

Settings, Detection history, Reports & cameras and the camera editor stay on the phone.

Day and night#

CarPlay follows the Appearance theme. With Auto, the car screen switches between day and night by sunrise and sunset at your position, so it changes whether or not the phone is awake. Android Auto follows the car's own day/night setting.

Alerts and the phone#

While SpectreNav is on the car screen or in the foreground on the phone, alerts show on the car screen and no duplicate banner is sent to the phone. Alerts keep working with the phone locked.

Connect#

  • CarPlay: plug in or connect wirelessly as usual; SpectreNav appears on the CarPlay home screen. If it does not, open iOS Settings → General → CarPlay, choose your car and add it.
  • Android Auto: SpectreNav appears in the navigation apps once the Play Store build is installed. If it is missing, check Android Auto's app settings for the beta.

Troubleshooting#

Problem Try
Map shows but no alerts in the car Check the Detector chip on the phone; reconnect from Menu → Detector → Devices.
No sound in the car On the phone, Sound → Audio output should be Automatic; check the car's media volume.
Car screen stays in night mode Set Appearance to Auto, or Light to force it.
Detector does not reconnect after the car starts Open the app once on the phone; the app reconnects on its own after that.
